I am highly experience with Asterisk and Linux and I use Mac OS as my primary workstation for managing my Asterisk servers (though I never run Asterisk on my Mac). Installing Asterisk isn't the hard part. It is all the other things people don't think about that will cause trouble like internet connection stability (unrelated to bandwidth) and the quality of your router. Successfully using any cell phone with Asterisk and having decent call quality will be very unpredictable since it relies on your data connection. The installing of Asterisk is only the first step and the easiest. You will need to know how to open all the required ports in your router, you will need a SIP provider if you want to make and receive calls from regular phone users, and the hardest part will be setting up Asterisk. It doesn't work out of the box and is not as simple as entering a few users. Regular Asterisk doesn't come with a graphical interface and you didn't mention a preference for a product that adds one. I think you will be very disappointed in the end and find you just wasted your money if you continue without more research. I am only biding on this to warn you and hopefully save you some money. I think you should research both AsteriskNow and FreePBX and follow a tutorial to install them using VirtualBox all of which are free.
