Find Specific Pixel Colors

I need help finding the right API call to facilitate the following senario (this senario is similar to the "Magic Wand" function in Paint Shop Pro, if you are familiar with that program): I need to create a Region on a bitmat that contains ONLY pixels of a single, specific color, and that are next to (or touching) each other. In other words I need to make one API call that will find all pixels in a bitmat (hdc) of a specific color that are all connected. I need to do this without cycling through each and every pixel of the bitmat as they can be quite large at times.
