Network Security This part is about securing typical networks. It involves using all the techniques covered in several courses (secure network topologies, Firewalls, IDS, IPS, HoneyPots, etc.) to secure a virtual network in the context of a realistic use case Task: Setup a virtual network using virtualization software (VirtualBox or VmWare) including at least two client machines (Win XP, Win 7, Ubuntu, etc.), and one gateway/router/firewall virtual machine (e.g. MonoWall, pfSense, etc.). Then do the following security testing tasks: - Configure a firewall on the router virtual machine - Launch a network poisoning attack (e.g. ARP poisoning) on one client machine - Show how network poisoning can be stopped - Launch a Denial of Service attack on one of the client machines (e.g. LOIC software) - Show how Denial of service attack can be stopped. This task should be done in two different network topologies (One for ARP poisoning and the other for DOS ) For each part, a detailed description should be provided and the students are required to prepare a report and a technical summary of their work including snapshots and detailed instructions (Step by Step what you did with snapshot and short explanation for each step).
