My study has Total no of pts in 10yr period - 1786 Of this Acute Cholecystis - 178, Acute Pancreatitis- 95 & Acute appendicitis- 1513. Surgical approach for all these patients (1786)are Transperitoneal (common)- 1044 & Retroperitoneal (risky)-742. Surgical approach of 1786 patients for each condition Acute cholecystitis -178 ( transperoneal is 111and Retroperitoneal is 67). Acute Pancreatitis- 95( 43pt had Transperitoneal approach and retroperitoneal approach is 52). Acute Appendicitis- 1513( transperitoneal is 890and retroperitoneal is 623). Of these total 1786 pts, the complication of paralytic illeus occurred in 23 pts. Of this 23 paralytic illeus pts Acute cholecystitis -5 Acute pancreatitis -2 Acute Appendicitis- 16. In this 23 (paralytic illeus)complications Acute cholecystitis -5 ( transperoneal is 4 and Retroperitoneal is 1 ). Acute Pancreatitis- 2( no pt had Transperitoneal approach , but 2 had retroperitoneal approach). Acute Appendicitis- 16( transperitoneal is 5 and retroperitoneal is 11). I would like to know the statistically significance (p value)for the Complication Paralytic illeus in relation to the approach( transperitoneal & retroperitoneal) and also in relation to diagnosis ( Acute Cholecystitis, Acute Pancreatitis & Acute appendicitis) Is there is increased risk ( statistically significant ) of complication in relation to the approach(transperitoneal & retroperitoneal) specific to each diagnosis ( Acute Cholecystitis, Acute Pancreatitis & Acute appendicitis).
